Gear

Competitors may wear whatever clothing they would like to compete in as long as it is not deemed crude or vulgar by the Rough Gunner Staff.

Competitors must carry their entire ammunition load and magazines throughout the course; therefore a kit/rig is suggested.

Weapons

Rifles: Must be semi-automatic with a magazine capacity of no less than 10 and no more than 30.

Pistols: Must be semi-automatic with a magazine capacity of no less than 8 and no more than 20.

Optics

Optics are allowed on both rifles and pistols. However, there are no optics with magnification allowed on pistols and no magnification greater than 4X allowed on rifles. Rifles with optics that can adjust to greater than 4X must be taped to prevent the magnification from being adjusted.

Ammunition

No .22 LR ammunition is allowed for use in the Rough Gunner Competition.

Rifle: Calibers must be considered standard rifle calibers (.223/5.56mm, .300 AAC Blackout, 7.62×39, etc.) Please call if you have an unusual caliber of rifle to verify if it can be used in the competition.

Pistol: No magnum calibers allowed. Calibers must be considered standard pistol calibers (.380, 9mm, .40, 10mm, .45, .357 sig, etc.) Please call if you have an unusual caliber of rifle to verify if it can be used in the competition.

Safety

Safety is the number one concern while competing in the Rough Gunner competition.

Failure to adhere to the 4 basic safety rules of handling a firearms will result in immediate disqualification and removal from the competition. These are considered Major Safety infractions:

  • Always keep your finger off of the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
  • Treat every weapon as it is a loaded firearm.
  • Never point a firearm at something you do not wish to shoot.
  • Always know your target, what is in front and beyond it.

Minor safety violations will be assessed by the safety cadre. If a competitor accumulates 3 minor safety violations they will be immediately disqualified and removed from the competition.

Weather

The competition will run rain or shine. However, please bring the proper attire to run the course. Emergency Medical Technicians will be on staff to handle any hot or cold weather injuries/illnesses.

If lightning is assessed within 5 miles of the competition location, a 30 min break will take place. If lightning persists the competition will be moved either 4 hours later or to the following day.

Emergency Info

All competitors will provide the Rough Gunner staff with an emergency contact number. If an injury occurs, the emergence contact will be notified of the competitor’s location at the nearest hospital.
